DEFINITIONS:

1. A Disciple:

  •     Someone who is following Jesus
  •     Someone who is being changed by Jesus
  •     Someone who is committed to the mission of Jesus (Matt 4:19)

2. Disciple Making:

  •     Entering into a relationship to help people trust and follow Jesus

3. Disciple Maker:

  •     A Christian who enters into relationships with people to help them trust and follow Jesus

4. Discipleship- First:

  •     Those who see themselves through the missional lens of being disciples who make disciples

  NOTES ON ROMANS 6 – JOHN STOTT United to Christ and enslaved to God (6:1–23) The apostle has been painting an idyllic picture of the people of God. Having been justified by faith, they are standing in grace and rejoicing in glory. Having formerly belonged to Adam, the author of sin and death, they now belong to Christ, the author of salvation and life. Although at one point in the history of Israel the law was added to increase sin (5:20a), yet ‘grace increased all the more’ (5:20b), so that ‘grace might reign’ (5:21). It is a splendid vision of the triumph of grace. Against the grim background of human guilt, Paul depicts grace increasing and grace reigning. What was their criticism? It was not just that Paul’s gospel of justification by grace through faith without works seemed to make the doing of good works otiose.   SECTION OUTLINE SIX (ROMANS 6) Paul introduces God’s threefold method leading to sanctification. I. Step 1—Know (6:1–10): Believers must be aware of three facts. A. They have been crucified with Christ (6:1–3). B. They have been resurrected with Christ (6:4–5). C. They are now both dead and alive (6:6–10). 1. Dead to their sin (6:6–7): We should no longer be slaves to sin, for we have been crucified with Christ. 2. Alive in the Savior (6:8–10): We are now to live in the resurrection power of the one who rose from the dead and is forever alive. II. Step 2—Reckon (6:11): We are to count our crucifixion and resurrection as accomplished events. III. Step 3—Yield (6:12–23): Paul describes two kinds of yielding. A.
